About Verio VPN Services

About Verio
Incorporated in March 1996, Verio is one of the world's largest ISPs and Web hosts. While some companies claim to have an international client base, for Verio it is not an idle claim; the company has customers spread across no less than 170 countries.

Naturally, Verio offers VPN services. They fall under two categories: managed security VPNs, and IntelliSecurity VPN tunnels, both targeted towards businesses of all sizes.

The managed security VPN services are the basic VPN services that Verio offers. The company uses its Internet servers as a secure networking backbone. Verio actually designs the network around the needs of the clients, meaning that each VPN will be slightly different. VPN solutions include remote access, LAN-to-LAN, and extranets.

The second level of VPN solutions is part of a security plan, rather than being a VPN service in and of itself. The IntelliSecurity Services VPN tunnels are part of Verio's firewall services. They're used for LAN-to-LAN and extranet connections, or for providing secure Internet access to a network. Each firewall has five built-in VPN connections (either site-to-site or remote access). Additional connections are available for an incremental charge. Additionally, each solution comes with a secure Internet portal, providing the customer with continuous access to an interface showing the security status of their network.

The IntelliSecurity services come with a Service-Level Agreement guaranteeing 99.93% uptime, along with a quick notification if the firewall ever goes down. There are eight different service plans, all of which contain the secure Internet portal and full network monitoring.

Both solutions use security technology from Netscreen, Check Point, Nokia, and Enterasys Dragon.

What gives Verio an edge is its approach to technical support and business presence. Rather than have a single data center, the company has spent years building a local presence in many metropolitan centers by purchasing a number of smaller ISPs and adding them to the Verio backbone. This allows them to react quickly to any of the needs of their customers without having to go through a head office, and provide customized support.
