AT&T is well-established telecommunications company. Not surprisingly, it has not limited itself to voice communications, but delved into Internet services, broadband and VPNs as well.
The company's VPN offerings come in two forms: its IP VPN Services and its Managed VPN Tunneling Services.
Included among its Managed Data Network Services, AT&T offers a voice over IP enhancement feature, which will enable enterprise customers to provide an “intra-company tie line service” between sites. Customers can call from a phone attached to the site PBX and call another customer site using the AT&T global network. These calls are compressed into streams requiring only 10.5 kbps per channel.
AT&T's IP VPN Services allow the client to create extranets, intranets and provide remote access to LANs. In order to offer this service, AT&T uses its IP backbone, which features more than 2,000 points of presence worldwide. Additionally, the company offers controlled access to dedicated sites and authentication of dial-up users, hybrid networking and 24-hour security monitoring. The company's unique hybrid networking system allows clients to add a VPN solution onto a previously existing network. This service is customized to the needs of the client.
AT&T's Managed VPN Tunneling Services allow clients to simplify network design and save money by avoiding costly and time-consuming infrastructure modifications. It uses IPSec, L2TP and PPTP features to deliver access, security and savings.
Because AT&T also offers Internet services, this allows a client only have to deal with a single source for both its Internet access and VPN solution.
In both cases, the pricing of the VPN service is dependent on the requirements of the client. AT&T can be contacted via its web site or by telephone at 1-800-288-3199.
