When one thinks of a computer microchip, the name that invariably pops up is Intel. It was started in the sixties by two ex-employees of Fairchild Semiconductor, and since the eighties has dominated the microprocessor industry.
Intel, however, does not limit itself to microchips. The company also offers a very comprehensive portfolio of Web and network services, including Virtual Private Networks. Rather than specialize in just hardware or software, Intel does both. The company offers four different VPN gateway systems, all of which have their own client software, and two of which have a VPN management suite. These VPN solutions are focused on higher-end markets, such as enterprise-scale businesses and Web hosts.
Ease of use is clearly on Intel's priority list; their VPN Gateway systems are all Windows-compatible, with several different authentication options. Systems are also scalable and stackable, allowing for network growth that won't affect the overall performance.
Security is also a major factor: every system comes with a built-in firewall, and a certificate system that can issue up to 2048-bit certificates. Additionally, the VPN client is designed to be compatible with another, general-purpose, firewall.
Intel's solutions perfect for a Web host or a large company with an in-house IT department, as clients can choose to use any connectivity provider they wish. Intel can be contacted via their web site or by telephone at 1-866-264-2569 (in the United States or Canada only). The company's VPN Gateways are also sold through authorized resellers.
