Vonage Certifies 2Wire HomePortal Gateway
August 30, 2002 -- Digital home telephone service provider Vonage (Vonage.com) announced this week that it has certified the HomePortal residential gateway from 2Wire Inc. (2Wire.com) a provider of residential gateways for use on the Vonage session initiation protocol network.
The certification, says Vonage, ensures operability between 2Wire’s HomePortal device and Vonage’s network for transmitting of SIP telephone calls over the home network.
"Working closely together in this certification process, Vonage and 2Wire are pioneering the entrance of SIP into the home as a protocol for a myriad of communications services," said Louis Holder, executive vice president of product development at Vonage. "This represents another step forward toward the realization of a fully digital household, and we are excited to join 2Wire at the forefront of home networking communications."
Used in conjunction with the 2Wire Phone Port network telephone adapter, the 2Wire HomePortal residential gateway will distribute digital phone service over existing phone lines, networking standard telephones by connecting them to a 2Wire Phone Port adapter.
