Virtela Provides Enterprise Network for Extreme Networks

March 17, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Global managed IP VPN services provider Virtela Communications Inc. (Virtela.net) announced on Tuesday that Extreme Networks, Inc. is using Virtela's managed private networking services to connect its corporate locations, partners and remote workforce worldwide.

Virtela also announced on Tuesday that it had acquired $11 million in financing, which will bring the company to profitability, enabling the expansion of sales, marketing and customer service.

The Extreme Networks implementation, says Virtela, uses the company's multi-carrier approach to improve network performance and reach while insulating customers from single-network risks.

Extreme Networks' fully-deployed network services 50 corporate and partner sites, 500 broadband telecommuters and up to 1,000 remote users around the globe. Virtela manages the network end-to-end and around the clock across five continents, including the management of 25 carriers.

"Virtela offered a smooth migration and demonstrated that they could keep pace with our growth given the need to connect new global branch offices very quickly, within days if required," said Paul Hooper, Extreme's vice president of IT. "During the expansion to Europe, Asia, South America and the Middle East, the management of a diverse set of carriers and understanding of various regulatory environments became an increasing challenge. Our partnership with Virtela has yielded a higher performance wide are a network with substantial TCO savings and enabled our IT staff to be laser-focused on more strategic efforts since they can trust Virtela's 24x7 service and four-hour replacement time in the event of a hardware issue for all of our sites."
