ThyssenKrupp Elevator Installs Avaya VoIP
July 11, 2002 -- Voice and data networks and applications provider Avaya Inc. (Avaya.coms) announced on Wednesday that leading North American elevator company ThyssenKrupp Elevator is upgrading its voice and data communications using solutions from Avaya.
The network, says Avaya, will service the company’s entire Canadian operations, allowing its headquarters in Toronto and its network of branch offices to communicate as though they were in a single location, improving customer service and operational efficiency.
"ThyssenKrupp has been operating its customer contact centres with different communications systems in each branch," said Andrei Moffat, IT director, ThyssenKrupp Elevator. "To ensure that all customers receive the same quality of service no matter what office they call, we decided to centralize the call centre operations. Now, the work orders are dispatched directly to regional mechanics from our head office in Toronto, while customers can still dial a local number."
Avaya says routing calls to a central location, and forwarding them to the appropriate person, ensures that they will be answered quickly, and customers still call a local number. Calls are routed across ThyssenKrupp’s IP-enabled frame relay WAN, allowing the company to set up internal four-digit dialing to virtually eliminate long distance charges.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator, says Avaya, will install an Avaya S8700 Media Server in Toronto and Avaya G700 Media Gateways in each of its Canadian branch offices, replacing stand-alone systems in each location. The network will be managed using the Avaya VisAbility Management Suite and the Avaya Intuity AUDIX messaging application will help staff better manage communications. Each branch’s LAN will also be equipped with Avaya Cajun Network Switches.
