Stonesoft Developing VPN Firewall for IBM eServer zSeries
August 15, 2002 -- Security and high-availability software provider Stonesoft Corporation (Stonesoft.com) announced on Wednesday that its StoneGate High Availability Firewall and VPN will be available for IBM’s eServer zSeries in the last quarter of 2002.
Stonesoft says its StoneGate product for the eServer zSeries is a boost for IBM’s virtual Linux initiative, wherein a single mainframe running virtual LANs and servers can replace hundreds of traditional servers, generating big savings on space and labor.
According to Stonesoft, the same principles of security apply in virtual networks as they do in real networks. StoneGate will be run as another process on the virtual network without any additional hardware or external systems, protecting server farms using virtual Linux networks.
"The IBM eServer zSeries virtual Linux server concept is an excellent example of how StoneGate can be applied to a completely new network concept," says CEO Esa Korvenmaa of Stonesoft. "Supporting the zSeries has been a very exciting project since StoneGate is the only multi-threaded firewall in the market that can benefit from the dynamic resource allocation of IBM's virtual Linux concept."
