Sprint Launches VoIP PBX Evolution Strategy
April 24, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Communications carrier Sprint (Sprint.com) announced on Thursday that it has announced the VoIP migration strategy for the Sprint-branded Coral PBX product family designed to allow businesses to deploy real-world VoIP solutions with key functions many current IP systems sacrifice.
The Coral IP-enabled system, says Sprint, provides advanced network and station-side VoIP capabilities with the dependability of a legacy PBX. Transparent voice networking provides the ability to link multiple PBX systems over managed IP networks, eliminating the need for separate voice and data networks. According to Sprint, the system also provides IP telephony to the desktop, and allows remote locations to connect to the main PBX using IP telephones.
"Today customers need more than Voice over IP capabilities," says Dale Dotson, director of product management at Sprint North Supply, which distributes the Coral family through Sprint Authorized Dealers. "The ultimate goal for the system is to enable customers to advance to an IP system without compromising features."
Sprint says it plans to introduce Flex IP Softphone, a Microsoft Windows client software application that allows any PC on the Lan or WAN to become an IP station terminal.
