SnapGear Launches Small-Medium Firewall Appliances
December 9, 2002 -- Internet security solutions provider SnapGear Inc. (SnapGear.com) announced on Thursday that it has begun shipping its new enterprise class of VPN firewall appliances.
The new products, says SnapGear, are designed to cater to the security and remote access needs of small to medium enterprises. They are equipped with considerable capabilities for expansion, and provide enterprise class content filtering, scalable remote management and other enhancements.
Based on the Hitachi SuperH microprocessor family, says SnapGear, the new products have unprecedented ability to address SME Internet access and security with firewalling, anti-intrusion and VPN extensions. The company says the devices are the culmination of several years engineering research, and are free of legacy technology performance constraints.
The SME530 and SME550 are designed for implementations of varying sizes. The SME530 is intended for enterprise use with VPN throughput of up to 3Mb/s, and is suitable as a concentrator for remote access workers or for private networking between animals. The SME550 is intended for larger enterprise use with VPN throughput of up to 10Mb/s, suitable for use as an edge VPN firewall or a workgroup shield in highly sensitive environments.
