SnapGear Picks SafeNet VPN Chip

November 21, 2002 -- Internet security technology provider SafeNet Inc. (Safenet-Inc.com) announced on Wednesday that VPN firewall appliance manufacturer SnapGear Inc. (snapgear.com) has selected SafeNet’s Momentum Serires SafeXcel-1141 chip for its new VPN appliance, the SME550.

The SME550 is a VPN/firewall appliance designed for large enterprise use with throughput of up to 10 Mbps.

"SafeNet continues to set itself apart as the security solution of choice for leading OEM manufacturers, like SnapGear,” says Anthony Caputo, chairman and CEO of SafeNet. “who are seeking the best choice for secure VPN and network technology for their customers. With SnapGear's mission to develop unique, high-quality products with high performance and interoperability at a competitive price, the SafeXcel-1141 chip was the most logical selection."

SnapGear has embedded the SafeXcel-1141 into its SME550 VPN appliance, designed for use as an edge VPN firewall appliance or as a workgroup shield in corporate environments. SnapGear also chose the SafeXcel-1141 chip for its support for IPSec security with common encryption algorithms and easy integration with Linux applications.
