Secure Computing Buys Network Associates Firewall and VPN Business
February 27, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Secure Computing Corporation (securecomputing.com), a leading provider of enterprise access control solutions, announced on Tuesday that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Network Associates’ Gauntlet firewall and VPN business.
According to Secure Computing, the Gauntlet acquisition presents the company with an opportunity to demonstrate the superior application protection offered by proxy firewalls. The company says that application firewalls will play an important role in combating security threats like the Nimda and Code Red viruses, which have wreaked havoc with enterprise systems.
Secure Computing has already begun contacting Gauntlet customers and taking support calls for the product. The company says it is committed to assisting Gauntlet customers and to building on the Gauntlet and Sidewinder technologies in the interest of ultimately developing the most comprehensive hybrid architecture firewall in the marketplace. Secure Computing says its long-term goal is for customers of both the Gauntlet and Sidewinder products benefit from the acquisition of the new technology.
"We will be working closely with the over 4,000 Gauntlet customers and 100 Value Added Resellers to ensure they receive the most robust, high-assurance firewall solution to meet their rigorous enterprise security demands," says Tim McGurran, President and COO at Secure Computing.
