Schindler Deploys Wire One IP Communication Solution

February 28, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Wire One Technologies Inc. (wireone.com), a provider of video conferencing solutions, announced on Thursday that Schindler Elevator Corporation is now using Wire One’s Glowpoint network to conduct Internet protocol-based videoconferencing among 15 locations in the United States.

Wire One’s IP videoconferencing solution will replace the simple desktop videoconferencing solutions previously implemented by Schindler, delivering uninterrupted, multi-point video calls with television-like quality. Wire One says that Schindler turned to the company for a cost-effective IP video communications solution, and focused quickly on the Glowpoint network.

The Glowpoint network is Wire One’s IP-based network dedicated to video communications. The network uses an IP backbone, achieving last mile connectivity through a variety of solutions, including DSL, T1 and optical Ethernet.

In addition to installing 15 Glowpoint endpoints, Schindler, which designs, manufactures, installs and services a range of elevators, escalators and moving walks, also purchased more than a dozen Polycom Videoconferencing devices and other peripherals like document camerals and dual monitor systems for multiple conference rooms.

Schindler expects the complete solution will help the company achieve significant reductions in travel budgets and recognizable gains in employee productivity through collaboration.

Wire One currently serves more than 3,000 companies with about 15,000 videoconferencing endpoints in the commercial, government, medical and education marketplaces around the world.
