SafeNet Introduces SoftRemote Version 8.0
April 3, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- SafeNet Inc., a leading provider of Internet security technology, announced on Tuesday that it has released the latest version of its VPN client software, SoftRemote, with support for Windows XP and network address translation (NAT) traversal.
According to SafeNet, businesses are increasingly turning to the strengths of Windows XP, and offering an XP compatible version of SoftRemote will allow a variety of users another option for secure Internet communications. Along with its general XP compatibility, SoftRemote is compatible with the XP firewall and PPPoE broadband connections.
NAT traversal in a VPN client, says SafeNet, solves a problem experienced by users attempting to communicate through a gateway or Internet device with NAT installed, often a cable or DSL modem. The efforts of the device to hide the addressing structure of the internal networks can result in dropped VPN sessions. Working in conjunction with a gateway that also supports NAT traversal, SoftRemote, says SafeNet, allows users to traverse the NAT device and connect directly to the internal network through a VPN tunnel.
“We have an obligation to security-conscious businesses and high-security enterprises to provide compatibility with the most popular operating systems,'' said Chris Fedde, vice president and general manager for SafeNet's Enterprise Security Division. ``SoftRemote 8.0, with XP and NAT compatibility, answers the demand from users who need advanced capabilities and want to utilize a field-proven VPN client.''
