Qwest Signs $100 Million in VPN Deals
February 27, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Broadband communications company Qwest Communications International Inc. (qwest.com) announced on Wednesday that it has recently signed multi-year agreements totaling about $100 million in revenue from its virtual private network services.
In recent months, says Qwest, the company has completed VPN agreements with Global 1000 and other nationally recognized organizations, including Petco Animal Supplies Inc., RBC Dain Rauscher and Alliance Gaming Corp, which owns Bally Gaming and Systems. Qwest’s solutions, says the company, have helped these companies, and others, implement business communications networks that protect their corporate computing resources securely and reliably.
``Customers are particularly attracted to these solutions as they embrace next generation applications such as video and voice over Internet protocol. Qwest is the technical and market leader for VPN, supporting customers on five continents.'' says Shaun Gilmore, Qwest executive vice president of global accounts.
Qwest says that in 1999, the company was one of the first to introduce network-based VPN technology in the U.S., and has strengthened its position through its network-based VPN services in Europe. Today, the company offers a broad suite of VPN services, and is among the largest providers of multiple VPN technology solutions. Qwest says it poised to introduce its network-based VPN services into Asia in the second quarter of 2002.
Internet protocol VPN services, says Qwest are one of the bright spots in the recently challenged telecommunications market. The company says its long-standing presence in the IP VPN marketplace makes it one of the most experienced providers of the service.
