Quintum Deploys VoIP for China's largest Commercial Bank

July 22, 2002 -- VoIP solution developer Quintum Technologies Inc. (Quintum.com) announced on Monday that the Agriculture Bank of China has completed phase one of its VoIP network deployment, using the Quintum Tenor VoIP MultiPath Switch.

The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), says Quintum, is one of the Global 500, with revenues exceeding $250 billion US. The first deployment of 106 Tenor systems in AnHui province with more than 100 ABC branch offices was completed in May of this year. Deployments in ShanXi and GanSu Provinces are currently being conducted, with more to follow.

The purpose of the deployment, says Quintum, was to allow ABC to decrease long distance phone expenses between its more than 50,000 domestic and international branches and affiliate offices. ABC required that the VoIP deployment would not impact on the company’s existing IP network. The company did not want to reprogram its PBX or require the purchase of any PBX upgrades or interface cards. Most of all, ABC wanted no degradation of voice quality compared to wire-line calls.

In April, Quintum distributor Public Information Technology Company, recommended the Tenor VoIP MultiPath Switches as the solution that would most easily meet ABC’s diverse network requirements. ABC chose to deploy the 32-port digital Tenor in Province locations, 16-port Tenors in cities and 8-port Tenors in small counties and towns. Branch office PBXs and branch office VPNs were connected with Tenors and consolidated into multiple regional call centers connected to one central call center through the VoIP network.

"We evaluated a lot of VoIP products," says FanFan Zheng, division manager of information technology of ABC. "We like Tenor because of its ease of installation and because it doesn't require any changes to the existing voice or data networks. Many other VoIP solutions require additional equipment and reprogramming, so, using other solutions would have required changes which would have impacted our entire data network."
