Qualys Extends Security Platform to Wireless and VPN
September 16, 2002 -- Managed vulnerability assessment provider Qualys Inc. (Qualys.com) said on Monday that it has released a new version of its QualysGuard, allowing network operators to inventory all networked devices and systems, including wireless and remote access VPN devices.
The new version of QualysGuard, says Qualysm extends the product’s vulnerability management to wireless and VPN access points, which have traditionally left exposed on corporate networks. QualysGuard can now scan devices including 802.11 access points from Cisco, Apple, Nokia, LINKSYS, 3Com, Lucent and others.
QualysGuard uses proprietary fingerprinting technology to identify every accessible device on the corporate network, allowing administrators to discover systems in violation of security policies.
"Historically, networks were much easier to protect, but with wireless and VPN access, the points of entry multiply and the perimeter of the network weakens. Even a simple configuration error on a VPN server can expose the network to unauthorized entry that threatens the entire company," stated Philippe Courtot, chairman and CEO of Qualys. "By extending the scope of QualysGuard to automatically monitor remote access points, Qualys simplifies IT administrators' inventory management on their perpetually evolving networks reducing their window of exposure against cyber attacks."
