Pre-Release VPN Tracker for Mac OS X Announced
April 29, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Apple systems software developer equinux (equinux.com) announced on Tuesday that it has unveiled a pre-release version of VPN Tracker, the company's IPsec client for Mac OS X, using digital RSA certificates in addition to standard "pre-shared secret" authentication.
equinux says pre-shared secrets do not scale as well when deploying large-scale VPN installations. The support of certificates builds on the features of previous VPN tracker releases to deliver flexibility in handling VPN setups, says the company.
VPN Tracker Version 2.0, says equinux, can issue, digitally sign, validate and centrally manage certificates, reducing management overhead and administrative costs. User-specific certificates prevent password sharing, and ensure that only intended recipients or devices have access to transmitted data.
"With the support of certificates, VPN Tracker is now ready to make its mark in the enterprise market" said Till Schadde, equinux's CEO. "Version 2.0 addresses vital elements of security reinforcement and applies even tighter control for accessing corporate networks."
