Palm Announces New Security Alliances
June 1, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Handheld computer maker Palm Inc. (Palm.com) announced on Thrursday that it has formed five new agreements with technology companies for voice over IP, Wi-Fi and authentication software.
The agreements, says Palm, make wirelessly accessing the Internet or corporate network simpler, more versatile and more secure for professionals using the Palm Tungsten C handheld outside the office. VLI, Linksys, Wayport, WiFinder and Meetinghouse Data Communications introduced products and services designed to capitalize on the integrated Wi-Fi capabilities of the Tungsten C handheld.
Palm says the Tungsten C is the most powerful Palm branded device, and the first Palm to ship with integrated Wi-Fi.
VoIP solution developer VLI is introducing Gphone for Palm handhelds to enable VoIP for users. Gphone allows Tungsten C handheld users to communicate with other Palm handhelds using corporate wireless networks, public hotspots or wireless home networks.
In addition to the other features, an IPSec VPN client will also be available to address the remote access security needs of Wi-Fi networked professionals. The VPN will provide secure access to corporate networks so users can access data-intensive applications from Wi-Fi campuses or hotspots.
