Pacific Internet Subsidiary Deploys VPN for EDAW
September 12, 2002 -- Asia-based Internet service provider Pacific Internet (Pacific.net.sg) said on Monday that its wholly owned subsidiary Pacific Internet Australia, has made a deal with design and landscaping firm EDAW, to provide a broadband VPN.
The VPN, says Pacific, will connect EDAW’s Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices, and will be extended to connect its Hong Kong operations within eight months.
EDAW staff in Australia and Hong Kong will gain high-speed access to email and the Interent as well as shared corporate files and applications. The single integrated network is intended to improve communications between offices and provide access to traveling employees.
Pacific says EDAW also plans to use the VPN as the platform for video conferencing and Voice over IP services. The entire service will be managed by Pacific Internet, providing a single point of contact for administration, technical control and support throughout Asia.
"Pacific Internet is the largest ISP in the Asia-Pacific by geographical reach," says Dennis Muscat, managing director of Pacific Internet Australia. "With the Asian Internet-based VPN market expected to grow by 50 per cent in the next 18 months, Pacific Internet's ability to deliver consistent, business-quality broadband services across multiple countries, is a significant advantage over local carriers. As more companies turn to the VPN model for pan-Asia connectivity, we expect to win a significant share of new business."
