NetScreen Rated Fast-Growing Security Vendor
December 9, 2002 -- Integrated network security solution provider NetScreen technologies (NetScreen.com) announced on Thursday that it has been ranked by research organization IDC as the fastest growing vendor in the firewall and virtual private network appliance market.
According to IDC's report, entitled "Worldwide Security Appliance Forecast and Analysis 2002 -- 2006: Hardware Continues to be the Choice of Security Software Deployment," NetScreen's revenue grew by 136 percent in 2001, four times more than the firewall and VPN market in general, which grew by approximately 34 percent during the same period. And, for the second consecutive year, NetScreen led the $50,000 and above solutions for high-end large enterprise and service providers category with a 47 percent market share.
The report also indicates that appliances have surpassed software-based solutions in the firewall-VPN market, and that successful vendors in the space will integrate additional technologies into their firewall/VPN offerings.
"Many enterprises and carriers recognize the performance and total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) advantages that purpose-built, appliance-based security solutions provide," says David Flynn, vice president of marketing at NetScreen. "As we integrate technologies, such as intrusion prevention, NetScreen intends to enable customers to increase their network security and meet their performance and TCO requirements."
