NetScreen Completes OneSecure Acquisition
September 20, 2002 -- Security solution developer NetScreen Technologies Inc. (NetScreen.com) announced on Thursday that it has completed its acquisition of intrusion prevention and detection solution developer OneSecure Inc.
The transaction, originally announced in August, was completed for approximately $40.1 million in NetScreen stock and the assumption of OneSecure’s outstanding options.
NetScreen will begin selling OneSecure’s intrusion detection and prevention solution as the NetScreen-IDP 100 appliance, capable of accurately detecting and then preventing attacks with a single solution. The device will initially be available in the US, Canada and selected countries in Europe and Asia.
NetScreen says it will integrate a subset of the intrusion prevention and detection technology into its line of integrated security systems and appliances during the first half of 2003. The company also plans to develop a new integrated security gateway, setting a new standard for network security.
"The market has been steadily moving towards combining security technologies to decrease costs and increase manageability," says Jeff Wilson, executive director at research firm Infonetics. "Completion of this acquisition brings key technologies to NetScreen that enable it to quickly combine IDP with firewall, VPN, and overall security management capabilities, establishing a benchmark by which other new security solutions will be measured."
