Marconi Launches IP VPN Solution
April 28, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Telecommunications equipment supplier Marconi (Marconi.com) announced on Monday that it has introduced a new solution designed to allow service providers to generate new revenues, through services like voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and packetized video delivery, using existing network infrastructure.
The new multi-service IP VPN solution, says Marconi, allows uses MPLS technology with the IETF "martini" draft standard on Marconi's ASX and TNX line of multi-service switch routers.
The company says its IP VPN solution supports multiple differentiated Ethernet services, including VoIP, packetized video and real-time data transport, simultaneously over the same Ethernet port, using a mutli-service platform that supports frame relay, private line and ATM services.
Marconi says its solution is designed for service provider deployments in multi-tenant, resale or managed network services markets. The four-port 10/100 interface supports Ethernet over MPLS and provides guaranteed quality of service over both MPLS and ATM infrastructures.
"With Marconi's IP solution, we help develop new revenue streams for service providers with next-generation IP services, while protecting their existing sources of revenue," said Tom Murray, vice president of marketing for Marconi's Broadband Routing & Switching group. "Service providers are able to achieve an increased return on assets because Marconi's flexible, standards- based, multiservice IP solution provides support for multiple types of differentiated IP services concurrently on the same network assets."
