Linksys Launches VPN Firewall Router
July 30, 2002 -- Small and medium business networking hardware developer Linksys (Linksys.com) announced on Tuesday that it has released its new EtherFast Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch and VPN Endpoint (BEFSX41).
For a price very close to that of a basic broadband router, the firewall router, says Linksys, high-speed Internet connection sharing while protecting the network with security features.
The new router, says Linksys, is designed particularly for home or business users, featuring stateful packet inspection for the policing of inbound requests, securing the LAN from intrusion. The BEFSX41 protects PCs from “pings of death,” IP Spoofing, denial of service attacks and internal snooping.
Linksys says the new router also features support for up to two IPSec VPN tunnels, which can be opened to secure connections to the corporate server, making the device perfect for mobile workers or remote offices.
"When you have a DSL or Cable line coming into your computer, it is always on," says Linksys president and CEO Victor Tsao. "You need protection. After listening to our customers, we developed a solution that marries security needs with affordability, ease of use and high performance. We're known for that."
