Internal VoIP to Save Genuity 57 Percent

September 6, 2002 -- Enterprise IP networking service provider Genuity Inc. (Genuity.com) announced on Thursday that the implementation of its Enterprise Voice over IP service at the company’s headquarters will save the company more than $300,000, or 57 percent, on its overall telecom costs for 2002.

Genuity says that by migrating its legacy voice services to next-generation IP services, the company can use its existing data center infrastructure to carry voice traffic, reducing overall expenditures on items like voice circuits, usage charges and other expenses.

The company says a typical enterprise customer could potentially reduce its total data and telecommunications costs by approximately 40 percent by implementing Genuity’s Enterprise Voice over IP service. Genuity’s additional savings came from its ability to avoid additional connectivity costs and the around-the-clock, global nature of its business.

"We are extremely pleased with the initial results from the implementation of our Enterprise Voice over IP service for outbound calling," says Joe Farina, president and chief operating officer of Genuity. "We have been able to dramatically reduce our overall telecom spending, while still enjoying the type of high-quality voice and data services that businesses like ours demand. In an environment where all companies, including Genuity, are looking for immediate cost-savings, we are now able to show our customers and potential customers, from firsthand experience, the savings they can achieve by using Enterprise Voice over IP."

The implementation of the Enterprise Voice over IP service in Woburn was completed in February of this year, says the company. And Genuity recently finalized the migration of its second-largest office, located in Lewisville, Texas, to the service for all of the facility’s outbound calling.

Genuity says it will continue to extend the Enterprise Voice over IP service capabilities to other office locations in the future.
