Innominate Debuts Miniature Firewall/VPN Appliance
April 8, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Security appliance developer Innominate Security Technologies AG (Innominate.com) announced on Monday that it would present one of the smallest security appliances for office and industry use at the Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, California.
mGuard, says Innominate, is a specialized device for protection against IP related threats. Measuring 0.8 by 2.4 by 4 inches, the device provides firewall and VPN functions with hardware supported encryption and optional anti-virus scanning.
Because of its small size, says Innominate, mGuard is especially suited to protecting desktop PCs and mobile computers. And its autonomous operating mode allows for easy installation into a variety of industry products, including medical appliances, point-of-sale devices, industry controllers or ticket vending machines.
Innominate says its solution uses Intel Xscale micro-architecture and has two Ethernet interfaces along with a crypto module.
"The use of the Intel IXP425 network processor allowed us to implement high security standards while achieving particularly strong miniaturization," said Olaf Siemens, chairman of Innominate. "This allows for safe IP connections in industry and office applications where they used to be impossible because of space and expense limits."
