Foundry Networks Announces New VPN Solution Package

March 5, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Foundry Networks, Inc. (foundrynetworks.com), a leading provider of enterprise and service provider switching, routing and traffic management solutions, announced on Monday that it had introduced a range of new Multi-Tenant Unit (MTU) and Provider Edge products for MPLS-based metro networks.

The new products, based on the NetIron Metro Router product family, says Foundry, include the MPLS VPN functionality and fine-grain bandwidth provisioning and wire-speed traffic accounting feature sets.

The company says the products feature a range of customer interfaces including 10/100 RJ-45, Gigabit Ethernet, OC-3c ATM, OC-3c SONET and OC-12c SONET, and a range of MPLS uplinks, including Gigabit Ethernet and OC-48c SONET. The MTU and Provider Edge products are bundles, says the company, pre-packaged and optimized for deployment as MTU and Provider Edge devices.

Included in the products’ functions are a number of MPLS-based VPN features, including support for a variety of interfaces, support for service providers to deliver multiple services on a single customer access point and support for MetroLink trunk customer interfaces at the end of any MPLS VPN tunnel.

Foundry says its new product offerings are complimented by its family of NetIron Metro Routers for the Provider Core and Internet Edge. The company says its consistent product family simplifies network operations and administration for customers.

Part of Foundry’s expanding metro strategy, the NetIron MTU and Provider Edge products will be generally available in April, 2002.
