First PacketCable VoIP Devices Certified
December 31, 2002 -- Research organization CableLabs (CableLabs.com) announced last week that a total of four PacketCable devices were certified or qualified in the latest CableLabs certification test wave.
These first PacketCable devices, says CableLabs, are designed to help cable operators deliver voice communications using IP. The certification status was given to multimedia terminal adapters from Arris and Toshiba, and qualification status was given to cable modem termination systems from Cisco Systems and Terayon.
The test wave, which concluded the previous week, was the first wave in which cable modems, home networking devices and PacketCable devices were evaluated for certification and qualification status.
“I believe that the variety of services that cable operators will deliver via PacketCable devices will surprise many people,” says CableLabs President and CEO Dr. Richard R. Green. “Voice communication is the first step and beyond that, the only limitation on advanced service options is the creativity and ingenuity of our vendors and members.”
