Essent KabelCom Offers Cisco VoIP Services
July 30, 2002 -- Network equipment developer Cisco Systems Inc. (Cisco.com) announced on Tuesday that telecommunications carrier Essent Kabelcom has chosen Cisco to provide cable modem termination systems.
Essent Kabelcom, says Cisco, will use the company’s uBR10012 and uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Routers for two-way interactive service through its cable network across the Netherlands. Following the rollout, Essent will be able to offer high-speed data, voice over IP, auto-provisioning and multiple ISP services over an advanced, standards-based Cisco cable IP network solution.
According to Cisco, moving to an accepted standard from a network based on proprietary architecture will allow Seent to better manage capital expenditures, accelerate deployment of network systems and improve the quality of new services. Both Cisco Universal Broadband Routers are DOCSIS 1.1 and EuroDOCSIS 1.0 qualified, and capable of delivering advanced services like VoIP.
"Essent Kabelcom's decision to launch a cable IP network showcases the increasing demand for and potential of cable IP networks," says Carson Chen, vice president and general manager of Cisco's cable business unit. "Essent has more or less 2 million subscribers in Europe and is building a cutting-edge network with the ability to deliver advanced communications and entertainment services. This project is a significant milestone for Essent Kabelcom and the marketplace and Cisco is proud to have been chosen to be part of it."
