Equant Announces Modular VPN Capability

December 13, 2002 -- IP and data services provider Equant (Equant.com) announced on Thursday that it has introduced its Modular VPN feature set, designed to allow customers to create different intranet communities within a single intranet solution.

The flexibility, says Equant, meets customers' communications needs by allowing them to tailor their IP VPN topology themselves. The network technology also allows for the evolution to convergent technologies like voice over IP and Video over IP.

Equant says its IP VPN has undergone continual development to meet the evolving requirements of multinational corporations. The modular VPN feature set, says Equant, is an example of the customer-focused evolution.

The Multiple VPN feature set is available worldwide, says Equant, enabling multinational corporations to share resources between separate intranet communities. The product is already in use with 20 multinational companies.

"It is frequently necessary for parent companies to communicate with their subsidiaries but to restrict information flows between them for security or to prevent anti-competitive practices," says Arjen Maarleveld, head of Products, Equant. "Previously, businesses had to build many separate physical networks and secure them with complex security technology. Now, Multiple VPN can deliver the necessary intranets over the same network connection cost effectively, securely and quickly."
