Enterasys and Sygate Secure Mobile Networks
March 28, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Enterprise networking solution provider Enterasys Networks Inc. (enterasys.com) and Sygate Technologies (sygate.com), a leader in security policy enforcement, announced on Tuesday that they have formed a strategic partnership designed to secure enterprise mobile computing environments.
Under the terms of the agreement, say the companies, Enterasys will add Sygate’s personal firewall to its own Aurorean VPN and RoamAbout wireless product lines, and will offer Sygate Secure Enterprise through Enterasys and its partners.
The combination, say the companies, will deliver high-level security to organizations that allow their employees to access the corporate LAN over public networks using VPN and wireless connections. These organizations will be able to accurately enforce security policies over users before granting them network access, as well as verify the use of the Sygate Personal Firewall and other security programs.
"Many people are concerned about the loss of and damage to valuable corporate information in situations using mobile computers, such as VPNs or wireless LANs," says Mads Lillelund, chief marketing officer at Enterasys Networks. "Enterasys' partnership with Sygate further strengthens the security of our VPN and wireless solutions by adding powerful distributed firewall technology to remote users' laptops, and complements our Secure Harbour framework for end-to-end enterprise network security."
The Sygate Personal Firewall (SPF), says Enterasys, will be bundled with the Enterasys Aurorean VPN Client and its RoamAbout Wireless PC cards. Customers will also be able to purchase the Sygate Secure Enterprise suite, which automates the enforcement of corporate security policies, though and its partners.
The two companies have also jointly developed an integrated VPN and personal firewall solution, combining Aurorean with Sygate Secure Enterprise. Customers, say the companies, will benefit from having a single point for the enforcement of VPN and firewall policies, as well as the single control point for network management.
The new solution, they say, allows administrators to create a segmented security policy, designed so that users who do not comply with corporate security policies are placed in a restricted area where they can obtain the updates necessary for full network access, rather than simply being denied their connections without the means to restore the security integrity of their machines.
