Enterasys Supplies VPN For SAP Demonstration Network

March 19, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Enterasys Networks Inc. (enterasys.com), an enterprise network solution provider, announced on Monday that e-business software solution developer SAP AG (sap.com), has selected Enterasys’s Aurorean virtual private network (VPN) technology to provide secure remote access for SAP’s global sales force.

The Aurorean VPN solution, says Enterasys, will supply the SAP sales force with secure access to the SAP demonstration network from any customer location. Enterasys says that the success of the solution led to another collaboration between the companies to deliver reliable remote access to enterprise customers with the mySAP.com e-business platform.

"Through tight collaboration between the SAP IT department and the Enterasys engineering and technical support groups, we quickly delivered a solution that allows SAP sales professionals to be more successful in front of their customers," said Mads Lillelund, chief marketing officer for Enterasys Networks. "Enterasys helped remove the barriers to effective sales demonstrations for SAP sales representatives while on another corporation's local network, helping them better demonstrate the value of mySAP.com to potential customers."

Enterasys says its Aurorean Virtual Network solution automatically creates secure VPN tunnels through clients’ corporate firewalls, proxy servers and network address translation servers, which often block such tunnels. The Aurorean client software, says Enterasys, is able to determine when it is being blocked by one of these network devices and adjust its tunneling to enable the connection. All of this is accomplished without the intervention of the user.

"[Enterasys] gave us more than a technical answer,” says John Harford, director of IT enterprise network services at SAP America, “they provided us with a real solution that allows our non-technical sales force to focus on successful customer appointments rather than complicated network issues. And according to Enterasys, the companies are extending their relationship to include the delivery of reliable remote access, through mySAP.com, to enterprise customers worldwide. As a cornerstone of Enterasys’s Secure Harbour architecture, the Aurorean solution offers a complete suite of VPN functions for mobile access, telecommuting, branch office and regional site connectivity.
