Enterasys Unveils VPN-Enabled Router

March 14, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Enterasys Networks Inc. (enterasys.com), a leader in enterprise networking solutions, announced on Wednesday the release of its new X-Pedition Security Router 1800 series products, a family of next-generation security routers designed for enterprise branch offices.

The XSR-1800 series, says Enterasys, is designed to deliver powerful remote office networking through a suite of IP router features, a range of WAN interfaces and enterprise-class virtual private networking and policy-managed distributed firewalling.

"With the introduction of the XSR-1800 series,” says Henry Fiallo, chairman and CEO of Enterasys Networks, “Enterasys is addressing the demand of enterprise customers for highly secure remote office networking with multiple forward migration options and investment protection. Branch office routers, firewalls and VPNs have been viewed in the past as standalone products. Enterasys has integrated these capabilities into a powerful, cost-effective, easy-to-manage solution."

According to Enterasys, the simple configuration and powerful remote management capabilities of the device makes it easy for customers to deploy XSR-1800 series routers at remote locations, including sites that lack technical support staff. Upgrades and feature enhancements can be completed remotely through a command-line interface.

The company says it has plans to further enhance the XSR-1800’s suite of security features through the future integration of Enterasys’s award-winning Dragon Intrusion Detection Systems technologies. It also has plans to enhance the device with support for convergence technologies to deliver voice, video and data appliacations.

The XSR-1800 series is fully managed by Enterasys’s NetSight Atlas network management solution and is supported by the company’s EnteraCare service portfolio. The first product in the XSR-1800 series is the X-Pedition Security Router 1805, which will be available starting in May 2002.
