EUMETSAT Picks Equant IP VPN Solutions
April 15, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Data and IP services provider Equant (Equant.com) announced on Wednesday that it will implement an IP VPN Solution for intergovernmental meteorological satellite operating organization EUMETSAT, in order to process weather data gathered from international meteorological satellites.
EUMETSAT, says Equant, launched its ATOVS Retransmission Service in 2002, and wanted a secure, high-performance network to link satellite stations across Europe. Chosen last year as EUMETSAT's supplier, Equant says it has connected satellite stations in Tromso, Norway and Maspalomas, Spain. Four more stations are expected to be connected within three months.
"EUMETSAT will benefit from Equant IP VPN by maximizing productivity and efficiency enabled by secure, cost-effective communications and collaboration between its locations to deliver faster, more accurate weather forecasting," said Michel Picaud, Equant's senior vice president, markets and sales, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa.
According to Equant, EUMETSAT will have a single, global IP VPN providing secure, high performance connectivity. Using prioritization capabilities, EUMETSAT will be able to maximize bandwidth use and optimize performance of critical applications, delivering more data faster from its satellites. Equant will monitor the managed solution 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
