CyberCom Networx Picks SAVVIS Managed IP VPN
October 4, 2002 -- Managed IP and managed hosting service provider SAVVS Communications (SAVVIS.net) announced on Wednesday that systems integrator CyberCom Networx has chosen the company to provide managed IP VPN service to CyberCom client Thomasville Home Furnishings.
SAVVIS says its solution will link 14 Thomasville facilities across the US, supporting a range of applications including secure data transfer, file sharing, corporate intranet, shipping orders, invoicing/accounting, e-mail and videoconferencing.
As part of the deal, says SAVVIS, CyberCom designed the network topology and IP scheme, managed the IP allocation and integrated Thomasville’s back-end equipment with the SAVVIS backbone.
"SAVVIS's ability to deliver a totally secure, totally private network, as opposed to a network that runs on the public Internet via a private access point, was a key factor in making it possible for Thomasville to reduce costs on networking hardware," says Gary Ackerman, CIO of Cybercom Networx. "With SAVVIS, you can place one server at the hub, feeding all remote locations via the private network. Under a less efficient, less secure model, you might have a server at every location. That kind of efficiency results in immediate cost savings via fewer devices and reduced need for IT staff. It also produces a cleaner, simpler, better network."
