Clarent Integrates NetPerformer With VoIP Softswitch
March 8, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Clarent Corporation (clarent.com), a leading provider of softswitch solutions for data networks, announced on Friday the release of NetPerformer Enterprise Gateway.
According to Clarent, NetPeformer EG uses the SIP protocol to connect the NetPerformer product line, widely used among enterprises for private network voice and data applications, with Clarent’s VoIP softswitch, which provides access to global VoIP networks and the public telephone network.
The release of NetPerformer EG, says Clarent, means that with a simple software upgrade to an existing hardware investment, customers can enable standards-based VoIP and extend the reach of NetPerformer to include off-net access to the public telephone network over the Clarent softswitch.
NetPerformer EG, says the company, uses the full range of NetPerformer capabilities in large enterprises and small, remote offices, including support for 2 to 240 telephony channels per unit, converged voice and data over leased and switched lines, frame relay, ATM, satellite, IP/Ethernet and several other circuits.
"NetPerformer EG is a significant initiative for both Clarent's NetPerformer and softswitch product lines," says Elizabeth Cholawsky, vice president of marketing. "For NetPerformer, SIP connectivity to the PSTN through our softswitch provides a converged communications network for enterprises, while creating new revenue opportunities for service providers. By developing SIP capabilities on our Class 5 Call Manager, the reach of the Clarent softswitch now extends to the enterprise and can interoperate with many different types of SIP end points."
Clarent says the release of the NetPerformer Enterprise gateway follows a period of field-testing that began in December of 2001.
