Cisco Introduces Three-Slot Switch, Ethernet Module
October 10, 2002 -- Networking hardware developer Cisco Systems Inc. said this week that it had introduced a three-slot modular switching chassis and a 48-port Ethernet switch adapter card that supports voice over IP for firewall and virtual private network applications.
The new three-slot Cisco Catalyst 6503 adds to the company’s existing family of 6-, 9- and 13-slot chassis, allowing customers the option for deploying a single networking platform throughout their networks.
Using the new 48-port Ethernet module with Catalyst 6500 series switches will enable customers to support performance demanding applications such as VoIP.
Cisco says the Catalyst 6503 chassis will be available this month, starting at $2,995. The 48-port Ethernet modules are available now, starting at $5,995.
