Cisco Announces Cable VoIP Deployment
June 1, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Networking equipment developer Cisco Systems Inc. (Cisco.com) announced last week that Time Warner Cable is delivering the first Voice over Internet Protocol cable primary-line residential telephone service, Digital Phone, to customers in Portland, Maine.
Using Cisco's Internet Protocol voice solution, says Cisco, Time Warner Cable is gaining efficiencies by adding its Digital Phone service to its existing multi-service network infrastructure.
Cisco says Time Warner Cable is delivering a "triple play" service bundle using standards-based technologies and intelligent networking on Cisco solutions, including voice, video and Internet access.
In addition to the new services, Time Warner Cable's Digital Phone service recently received the Cisco Powered Network designation which identifies services as being built with Cisco end-to-end. As a member of the Cisco Powered Network program, Time Warner Cable will also have access to joint marketing and technology-sharing activities with Cisco.
"The new Time Warner Cable Digital Phone service is an exciting innovation in voice over cable. This delivers better choice and value to Time Warner Cable residential customers while offering the economic benefits of a Cisco multiservice broadband infrastructure. We are very pleased to have Time Warner Cable as a customer and are supporting their success through our BLISS and VoIP offerings," said Mark Bakies, Cisco' director of marketing for voice technology.
