Check Point Launches Wireless Security Initiative

June 20, 2002 -- Internet security developer Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (CheckPoint.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched a new Open Platform for Security (OPSEC) Wireless Initiative.

The OPSEC Wireless Initiative, says Check Point, is designed to enable customers to deploy wireless solutions that seamlessly integrate with Check Point’s VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation solutions, and is being supported by industry leading vendors such as HP, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Nokia and Proxim Corporation.

Check Point says the OPSEC Wireless Initiative extends the company’s Secure Virtual Network Architecture to "Secured by Check Point" mobile devices and OPSEC certified wireless networking solutions. These solutions, says the company, are tested and certified for interoperability with the VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation solutions, allowing customers to deploy integrated security end-to-end across their wired and wireless environments.

"Secured by Check Point" mobile devices, says the company, are certified to interoperate with Check Point VPN-1 SecureClientT and VPN-1 SecuRemoteT to provide integrated and centrally-managed VPN and firewall functions. Among the devices currently certified are the HP iPAQT PDAs and handhelds, IBM ThinkPad laptops and Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 devices and Smartphones 2002.

Through the OPSEC Wireless Initiative, Check Point is certifying wireless networking solutions to ensure integration with Check Point VPN-1 gateways, servers and clients, providing firewall protection and encryption for security, access control and data privacy. The initial certified partners include Intel, Proxim and Nokia.

"Ensuring end-to-end security is a critical issue for enterprises deploying mobile devices and wireless access," says Asheem Chandna, vice president of business development and product management for Check Point Software Technologies. "Through OPSEC, Check Point is extending its Secure Virtual Network Architecture to uniquely deliver comprehensive security across both wired and wireless environments."
