C&W Wins £12 Million Cable Direct Contract
November 26, 2002 -- Telecommunications company Cable & Wireless (CW.com) announced on Tuesday that sales, customer management and billing services company Cable Direct will re-route all of its voice traffic onto Cable & Wireless’s network in a contract worth an estimated £12 million a year.
The move, which is taking place through Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS) extends an existing contract between the two companies.
The Cable & Wireless CPS Solution, says C&W, will enable Cable Direct to divert calls from its 38,000 existing customers onto Cable & Wireless’s network without having to dial an access code, meaning reduced call charges and enhanced service for customers. Cable & Wireless says its CPS will save Cable Direct customers up to 30 or 40 percent on call charges.
"Through Cable & Wireless CPS, we will be able to prevent any leaked calls, enabling better management of revenues and improved quality of service," said Gary Whipp, CEO of Cable Direct. "With a number of major telecommunications carriers suffering serious financial difficulties, it's reassuring to know that our traffic is being carried on one of the world's most reliable networks and by Cable & Wireless, one of the few telecoms companies that's financially strong."
Cable Direct recently extended its involvement with Cable & Wireless to include a variety of services, including non-geographic numbers service. The companies are also working on an Internet service for Cable Direct to offer its customers.
