Broadwing Introduces IP Videoconferencing

September 9, 2002 -- Integrated communications provider Broadwing Inc. (Broadwing.com) announced on Monday that it will add IP Videoconferencing to its suite of products.

The all-in-one solution, says the company, will offer customers the performance standards of the Broadwing network, the ability to use the IP connection for multiple applications and the flexibility to use existing videoconferencing equipment.

Broadwing says it offers both a user-hosted and a Broadwing-hosted videoconferencing solution. The user-hosted solution gives customers tools with which to schedule, launch and manage every aspect of the conference. The hosted solution includes a service representative to host and establish the video call and a dedicated conferencing expert that monitors session quality.

The product’s flexibility lets customers conduct videoconferences between multiple sites using varying connecting speeds and different hardware. Offices without videoconferencing hardware can participate through an audio connection.

"Because Broadwing's IP Videoconferencing runs over the Broadwing IP network, there are never idle lines," says Jack Chidester, president of Business Enterprises at Broadwing. "When a conference is not in session, the customer can utilize the IP connections for emails, data, voice and Internet access. With more and more companies running on tighter travel budgets, multipoint videoconferencing has become a viable, cost-effective communications solution."
