BellSouth to Support State Lottery With VPN

March 7, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- BellSouth (bellsouth.com), a leading communications services company, and Scientific Games Corporation (scientificgames.com) announced on Thursday that the two companies are working together to deliver the first-ever state lottery virtual private network in the Southeast, to thousands of South Carolina Education Lottery retailers.

The companies say the purpose of the VPN solution is to connect the retailers to the South Carolina Education Lottery’s central computer. And BellSouth says it was glad to demonstrate its commitment to delivering innovative solutions to South Carolina’s residents by deploying the solution in a matter of a few weeks.

The advanced VPN solution combines a variety of technologies, including multiple means of secure Internet access to the SCEL data centers and regular phone lines, as well as managed security, encryption and firewall applications. BellSouth says it took advantage of its relationship with Cisco, a worldwide Internet networking and security leader, in creating a secure, high-speed solution.

According to BellSouth, many state lotteries rely on technologies like private line networks, which can be much more costly than VPN solutions. BellSouth says its VPN solution offers an innovative alternative to high-bandwidth, secure connectivity for lotteries throughout the Southeast.
