Axerra Networks and Ericsson Deliver Multiservice over IP

March 13, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Axerra Networks (axerranetworks.com), a developer of multiservice over Internet Protocol (MSoIP) products, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a system integration and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with leading technology company Ericsson AB (ericsson.com).

The agreement, says Axerra, will allow Ericsson full rights to distribute and support Axerra’s award-winning AXN family of multiservice IP concentrators as part of the Ericsson Packet Backbone Network (PBN) solutions portfolio.

Axerra says its AXN family plays a key role in rounding out Ericsson’s IP infrastructure product family, which includes products for use at the core and in packet-based metro networks. The AXN multiservice capabilities, particularly the AXI 520 and AXI 580 IP core routers, says Axerra, enable service providers to deploy legacy services, such as leased line and frame relay, alongside emerging IP services on packet backbone networks and metro-Ethernet networks.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will also seek out cooperative opportunities to create integrated technology using MSoIP solutions.

"This agreement enables the next-generation of true multiservice IP network solutions," says Gil Biran, CEO and founder of Axerra Networks. "Our ability to provide a scalable and flexible approach to building QoS-enabled multiservice networks uniquely qualifies us to work with Ericsson and its partners to unlock the power of IP networks."

Axerra says Ericsson adopted the company’s solutions only after conducting a series of interoperability tests with the PBN portfolio. The tests, says Axerra, are proof of the quality of service delivered by its MSoIP technology.

According to Axerra, its AXN Multiservice IP Concentrator, which allows service providers to offer both legacy services like leased lines, frame relay, circuit switched voice and ATM alongside IP service such as VoIP and IP VPN, all over IP and MPLS networks, is evidence of the changing business model for today’s service provider market.
