Avaya, Altura Sign IP Telephony Agreement

August 15, 2002 -- Communications network provider Avaya Inc. (Avaya.com) announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with voice and data service provider Altura Communications Solutions LLC (AlturaCS.com), designed to enable businesses supported by Altura to evolve communications from traditional telephone networks to IP telephony systems and applications.

According to the terms of the technology, sales and service agreement, Avaya will develop interoperability software allowing Altura’s customers to Avaya’s Enterprise Class Internet Protocol Solutions (ECLIPS) from their existing Fujitsu-based networks. And as a member of Avaya’s BusinessPartner program, Altura will sell and service Avaya’s ECLIPS portfolio.

The agreement is part of a major effort by Altura to identify a new convergence platform for its clients following Fujitsu’s exit from the US enterprise market. The company says it will continue to support its more than 6,000 Fujitsu systems while offering its customers the opportunity to migrate to Avaya’s IP telephony solution.

"Avaya welcomes Altura and its customers to the world of IP telephony with solutions designed to support their current and future communications requirements," says Micky Tsui, vice president and general manager, Converged Systems, Avaya. "Altura has an outstanding reputation for service, with the company's Red Carpet program setting a standard for the industry, and Avaya has the expertise in convergence and enterprise telephony and the ECLIPS portfolio that delivers a no-compromise path to IP telephony."
