AT&T Supports Avaya IP Telephony Solution
March 31, 2003 -- (FIND VPN) -- Communications carrier AT&T (ATT.com) announced on Monday that its voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) services will support Avaya IP Telephony solutions, delivering new technology alternatives while protecting their investments in existing systems and applications.
The announcement, says AT&T, builds on the company's leadership in the networking business, and Avaya's position as a leader in IP telephony and communications software. AT&T says its AT&T Labs has certified Avaya's IP Telephony servers, gateways and MultiVantage software for interoperability with the AT&T network to make the Avaya solutions compatible with AT&T's VoIP Services.
Trials for AT&T's new managed VoIP services will begin immediately, says the company, with service introduction across AT&T's VoIP portfolio expected during the third quarter.
"Customers have been asking us how they can integrate new phones and applications with existing ones," said Peggy Sexton, AT&T vice president for connectivity services. "They want to take advantage of new technologies, but need a way to invest gradually with assurance that the new works side by side with the old. Our latest VoIP capability allows customers to do that, and at a rate that makes sense for them."
