AT&T, UNISITI Build COSCO Networks
January 23, 2003 -- Communications carrier AT&T (ATT.com) and China-based telecom services joint venture UNISITI announced this week that they have been awarded a contract to build the European and Asia Pacific network of China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO).
AT&T will provide COSCO's European Wide Area Network, covering Germany, France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain. The contract covers mangaed data network services on a frame relay platform. In Asia-pacific, the contract involves linking COSCO's global network and data center, based in Pudong, Shanghai, with the company's regional offices in Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, using UNISITI's broadband network and connection to the AT&T global network.
The companies attribute the successful bid to the cooperation between AT&T and UNISITI, and strong support from China Telecom, along with the ability to offer a seamless global solution.
"This agreement shows the value that our operations in EMEA can provide to global companies," said Joe Stretch, vice president responsible for AT&T's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "AT&T is able to provide true global seamless services with a consistent approach, service level and processes to clients where ever they are in the world and our vision and ability to deliver is a critical part of our appeal and success."
