AppGate Updates Plug-and-Play VPN Appliances
June 20, 2002 -- Application layer VPN solution developer AppGate (AppGate.com) announced on Monday that it has introduced the Junis PowerBox Models for business users and the Fortimus PowerBox Moxels for enterprise power users running AppGate PowerBox Version 5.0.
Along with the updates, AppGate introduced the addition of the Protis Personal Firewall to its product line. The firewall is designed to operate in conjunction with the Junis and Fortimus PowerBoxes.
The Junis and Fortimus PowerBox 5.0 updates mark the introduction of a range of new services, including secure print capabilities, included as a standard feature on the Fortimus model, designed to close security holes frequently opened by print commands; clustered PowerBox appliances, included as a standard feature of both the Junis and the Fortimus models, designed to simplify network configuration for administrators without compromising security; enhanced graphical user interface for both models; VeriSign PKI support for both PowerBox models; and the Protis Personal Firewall, included as an optional feature for both the Junis and the Fortimus models.
The new PowerBox systems are designed to support full authentication functionality, access control systems, local and wireless protection and a number of other features.
AppGate says its new PowerBox model provides a complete migration path, from the 50-user Junis I model all the way to the million-user Fortimus Enterprise system.
"We are simplifying everything into a single series of products that are easy-to-use, convenient and cover all the anticipated complexities of security in a ready-to-use box," says Alfred Moresi, AppGate's chief executive officer. "Customers are demanding convenience, not complications. The AppGate Junis and Fortimus PowerBoxes 5.0 reflect the philosophy of AppGate, which is to serve our customer's needs as they expand their business and create a migration path for them to do that."
