New AppGate PowerBox Streamlines e-Security Deployment

March 15, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- AppGate, a provider of VPN security solutions, today announced a user-friendly, appliance-based VPN solution. The AppGate PowerBox requires minimal configuration and no software installation. Pre-installed and pre-configured with AppGate’s (appgate.com) VPN software, the PowerBox greatly reduces the time and cost for deployment.

Aiming to alleviate complex e-security implementations and costly technological processes affecting enterprises of all sizes, the AppGate product simplifies the integration of VPN technology into any existing network. AppGate’s scalable proprietary architecture makes the solution suitable for small, medium and large organizations.

As a JAVA-based solution, the AppGate PowerBox client offers flexibility as it runs on a wide variety of operating systems such as Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000, all common Unix/Linux clients and MacOS 7 or higher.

Focusing on powerful security solutions, the company’s products are built around Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. Commonly used VPN technologies employ Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) or Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocols to provide adequate, though incomplete, protection. When SSL-based clients stop at Web application, email system and file security, AppGate extends to legacy networks and operating systems. Moreover, AppGate’s proven technology effectively secures networks through and beyond firewalls and proxies—a capability often hindered by complications when users deploy IPsec-based clients.

“Recent events have, undoubtedly, increased the focus and need for strong, reliable network security. On the flipside, recent market trends have called for scaled back spending and greater emphasis on quick, measurable ROI. We’re excited to introduce a product that answers both needs,” said Alfred Moresi, AppGate’s chief executive officer.
