Quintum VoIP Call Center Links Sri Lanka to UK

July 9, 2002 -- Voice over IP solution developer Quintum Technologies (Quintum.com) announced on Tuesday that its UK distributor, the Techland Group, has completed the initial rollout of a VoIP call center deployment using Quintum’s Tenor VoIP switching products.

The call center deployment, says Quintum, was designed for Click Communications, a telemarketing subsidiary of UK-based ILS Promotions, which sells specialty Asian textiles to UK retailers from Sri Lanka. Click Communications has began telemarketing efforts to the UK from Columbo, Sri Lanka following the installation of the Quintum Tenor VoIP switching equipment sold by the Techland Group.

Click Communications’ outbound telemarketing call center in Sri Lanka was established to drive sales of textiles to UK retailers while saving 50 percent of the cost of leased space and HR overheads. An essential part of that plan was inexpensive and reliable telecommunications service.

"With Quintum Tenor VoIP, I have been able to save 50 percent on my overhead costs immediately from the move alone," says Sanjay Penerrara, owner of Click Communications. "Considering only call charges, I expect to see a complete return on investment from the Quintum VoIP solution in just a few months."

Operatives in the Columbo, Sri Lanka call center place calls over a single 128kbps unmanaged Internet link to the UK, says Quintum. Handsets are connected directly to the Tenor switch, using no local PABX. The calls are terminated at a London Telehouse by a Quintum Tenor CMS VoIP switch and forwarded to the recipients using low-cost PSTN lines.
