Secure Computing Signs OEM Agreement With Cisco

March 8, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Secure Computing Corporation (securecomputing.com), a leading provider of enterprise network access control solutions, announced on Thursday that it has signed an original equipment manufacturer agreement with major networking hardware manufacturer Cisco Systems (cisco.com)

According to the agreement, Secure’s SmartFilter software will be bundled with the Cisco Content Engine appliance as an option running “on box.” Secure says the inclusion of the software will help organizations optimize network performance by accelerating content delivery and managing employees’ non-business Web surfing.

Secure Computing’s additional software solutions include SafeWord PremierAccess for role-based access control, authentication and authorization to Web, VPN and network applications, Sidewinder, the company’s powerful firewall and VPN gateway, and Embedded Firewall, a tamper-resistant distributed firewall to defend against the insider threat.

"Secure Computing's on-box filtering approach reduces the number of systems that IS has to configure, install in racks, and manage on an on-going basis," says Eric Hemmendinger, research director for security and privacy at Aberdeen Group.

SmartFilter, says Secure, allows companies to build and enforce sophisticated Web-usage policies. By informing users on policies and denying access to specific sites, SmartFilter is intended to create a positive Web culture in any organization.

According to Secure, SmartFilter is the only on-box Web filtering solution currently bundled with the Cisco Content Engine. The bundled package is scheduled to ship in March 2002.
