Nokia Secures French Health System Intranet

July 12, 2002 -- Network equipment developer Nokia (Nokia.com) announced on Thursday that the National Coucil of the Medical Association, an important part of the French health system, has deployed Nokia IP network security appliances internationally.

The appliances, says Nokia combine software from partner Check Point Software Technologies. And the project was designed to protect access to the council�s intranet, its key data processing tool.

With 130 sites of varying complexity, the council required that access to the Intranet be secure. The solution involved two Nokia IP650 network appliances, pre-installed with Check Point�s VPN-1/FireWall-1 software. The quick set-up using the integrated Nokia Voyager management tool, make sure that the council�s applications were Intranet-accessible in a short time.

"The Intranet carries a substantial amount of traffic on a 24-hour basis and it was essential for the security solution to be perfectly reliable," says Patrick Aucher, information system manager for the National Council of the Medical Association. "The Nokia solution met our stringent requirements."

According to Nokia, the solution is scalable, able to accommodate future projects like the connection of all 360 existing French pharmaceutical laboratories to the system.
